The Foundation is guided by the Board of Directors, a diverse and dedicated group of local civic leaders. This governing body is responsible for all grant allocations made from Foundation funds, for overseeing asset development and for guiding our general operations. Steven Bugg - Chair

President and CEO, Great Lakes Credit Union

Steven Bugg serves as President and CEO of Great Lakes Credit Union headquartered in Bannockburn, Illinois.  He and his wife are newer residents of Lake County and reside in Libertyville.

He has over 30-years of executive level leadership experience in telecommunications and the financial services industry, primarily in the credit union and banking industries.

Steve graduated from the University of Evansville with a BA in Business Administration / Marketing.  Steve is also a graduate of The ProCon Leadership Institute for Cooperatives focusing on the development of CEOs.  He holds a real estate license in the State of Indiana.

His philanthropic efforts of giving of himself through his time, talents and treasures stand paramount to his strong belief in giving back to his local communities.  Past affiliations include non-profit leadership roles and volunteering with the Warrick County Community Foundation, Reitz Home Museum Society, Evansville Zoological Society, Roberts Stadium Foundation, Historic Newburgh, Inc. – A Main Street Community, and The University of Evansville.  He currently serves on the board of the Great Lakes Credit Union Foundation for Financial Empowerment.

Malcolm Newsome - Vice Chair

Vice President of Managed Software Services, 8th Light

Malcolm is Vice President of Managed Software Services for 8th Light, an international custom software development company based in Chicago. Prior to moving into software development, Malcolm served as a Lending Account Executive for Waukegan Savings Bank and Branch Manager for JP Morgan Chase.

Malcolm is a graduate of Waukegan High School and Northern Illinois University and currently lives in Fox Lake with his wife, Amy and their five children.

Joined the board in 2019. Chair of the Nominating & Governance Committee.

Nadine Johnson - Treasurer

Senior Vice President, Treasury Management Officer at First Midwest Bank

Nadine Johnson, Senior Vice President, Treasury Management Officer at First Midwest Bank, has worked in Commercial Banking for over 25 years. In her current role, she is responsible for a large portfolio of government and municipal clients in the Chicagoland area.

Nadine has a BSc degree in Business Administration from Columbia College of Missouri and an MBA from Webster University. She also holds the Certified Treasury Professional (CTP) designation. Nadine serves on the board of Community Partners for Affordable Housing (CPAH), Words on Wheels and the Executive Advisory Council of Governors State University Foundation. She also serves on the Finance Committee of the Healthcare Foundation of Northern Lake County (HFNLC), where she was a former Treasurer and Chair of the Finance Committee. She chairs Illinois Government Finance Officers Association’s (IGFOA’s) DEI Task Force.

In 2021 was recognized by Crain’s Chicago Business as a Notable Minority in Commercial Banking and by National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO) as a Corporate Woman of Achievement.

Tiffany M. Alexander - Secretary

Attorney and Partner, Alexander Law, LLC

Tiffany is the owner and co-founder of the Lake County law firm, Alexander Law, LLC, specializing in divorce, domestic relations and family law matters in Lake County. Tiffany is an active member of St. James Lutheran Church, and has extensive experience with the family, health and human services sector of Lake County through her legal practice.

Tiffany is enthused about helping The Lake County Community Foundation connect with professional advisors throughout Lake County and supporting outreach activities to the “next generation” of up and coming civic, philanthropic and community-minded leaders in the area. Tiffany is originally from Lake Forest, and has recently returned there to settle with her husband, her partner at Alexander Law, LLC., and family.

Jeanne Ang

Director of Community Health, AdvocateAuroraHealth System

Jeanne Ang is the Director of Community Health for the northern region for the AdvocateAuroraHealth system. She directs community health assessment, program development and impact measurement for three Advocate Health Care hospitals -Condell Medical Center, Good Shepherd Hospital and Sherman Hospital. She leads the hospitals’ community health engagement strategy and is responsible for developing and maintaining strong relationships with community leaders, government officials, businesses and social service providers in order to build comprehensive community health initiatives.

Prior to joining Advocate Health Care, Jeanne was the Director of a Federally Qualified Health Center in Lake County, providing care to more than 40,000 underserved patients in eight health centers across Lake County. Always committed to community-based approaches to address health issues, Jeanne led a four-year multi-agency consortium to open the first school-based health center in Lake County in 2014 at the Round Lake High School. From 2012-2015, she also established and led the county-wide initiative, Enroll Lake County!, to assist residents with insurance enrollment into Medicaid and the Health Insurance Marketplace through the Affordable Care Act. She holds a Master’s degree in Community and Regional Planning and a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology. She moved to Illinois in 1996 from her home state of Nebraska, and she lives with her husband and mother in Spring Grove, Illinois.

Bruce Boyd

Principal and Senior Managing Director, Arabella Advisors 

Bruce Boyd serves as Principal and Senior Managing Director for Arabella Advisors, a philanthropy and impact investment firm. In his role, he works with individual, family, foundation and corporate clients, helping them effectively and efficiently deploy philanthropic and investment capital for good. Bruce has worked across a range of issues, including community development, human rights, education, and the environment. In addition to his work at Arabella, Bruce serves on the board of the Windward Fund, the Morrison Family Foundation, the Lilly School of Philanthropy and Rare. He and his wife Beth live in Highland Park and have two adult children.

Lisa Cowhey

Chief Operating Officer, Rosalind Franklin University Health Clinics, North Chicago, retired 

Prior to working in the academic sector, Lisa spent 20 years with Blue Cross Blue Shield Association where she led Integrated Disability Services and Government Initiatives. Lisa studied Accounting at Cleveland State University, holds a BA in Economics and Accounting from John Carroll University and an MBA in Healthcare from the Lake Forest Graduate School of Management. Her community volunteer work has included service on the Board of HealthReach Community Health, now known as Erie HealthReach in Waukegan. Lisa and her husband Jim, a former two-term mayor of Lake Forest, live in Lake Forest.

Senior Pastor, Holy Cross Lutheran Church

Pastor Bob began serving Holy Cross Lutheran Church on August 1, 1991. Nancy and Pr. Bob were married in 1983 and have two adult children, Elizabeth and Christopher. He served congregations in North Branch, MN, Maywood, IL, and Aurora, IL prior to coming to the Libertyville community. Pr. Bob is a graduate of the University of Iowa (B.A.) and the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago (Masters of Divinity and Doctor of Ministry). He was ordained in July 1980.

Besides congregational responsibilities, he also serves on the Governing Council for Advocate Condell Hospital, Board of Directors for Advocate Charitable Foundation, Board of Directors for Lutheran Social Services of Illinois, and, various other community organizations. In his free time, motorcycle touring, fishing, golf and music concerts are near the top of the list.

Steve Fox

Principal, Transportation and Logistics Advisors, LLC

Steve has more than 20 years of management consulting experience, managing client projects with companies in the transportation and logistics industries and shippers on supply chain management challenges. He specializes in growth strategy development, pricing, acquisition diligence and supply chain planning. He has presented speeches at various conferences, including on e-commerce trends and a growth strategy for the rail industry. Steve also co-authored an article published in Supply Chain Management Review magazine.

Steve is a graduate of Northwestern University and the University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business. He is past Board President of Erie Neighborhood House in Chicago and serves as the Treasurer for Rotary Club of Lake Forest-Lake Bluff. Steve is a Lake Forest resident.

The Northern Trust Company, retired

Martha R. Hinchman recently retired from The Northern Trust Company where she was a Senior Vice President and most recently served as the Managing Director for the Banking team in Lake Forest, Illinois.

Prior to joining Northern, where she worked for 26 years, Martha worked in credit and marketing positions for Chase Manhattan Bank in New York City for 10 years. She has a B.A. degree in economics from Wellesley College. Martha serves as a board member of the United Way of Metropolitan Chicago, serving on the Executive Committee and as Treasurer and Chair of the Finance Committee. She also serves on the boards of Luster Learning Institute and the Buchanan Family Foundation and as a mentor in the Menttium 100 program, and is active in Wellesley College alumnae and Church of the Holy Spirit volunteer activities. Martha resides in Lake Forest.

Kris Hoult

Managing Director, HoultHR Consulting, LLC

Kris Hoult is currently the Managing Director of HoultHR Consulting, LLC. He was previously Vice President of Human Resources at AveXis, Inc., a startup biotechnology company located in Bannockburn IL.   Prior to AveXis, he spent 25 years at Abbott and AbbVie where he served in variety of human resources roles, including Director of Mergers and Acquisitions, Corporate Human Resources. Prior to joining Abbott, Kris served as a Lieutenant in the Unites States Navy. He has an MBA from DePaul University and is a University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign alumn.

Kris brings deep experience in thinking strategically and operating in a forward-thinking manner while being a conscientious and resourceful adviser with a reputation for sound judgement and achieving positive results. Further, he has a history of building relationships with executives, peers, businesses partners, and employees.

Scott Humphrey

Retired, One Hope United

Scott Humphrey is a retired non-profit executive, having spent the first chapter of his professional life as an investment banker. Most recently, he served as the President & CEO of One Hope United (OHU), a diversified, multi-state social services provider. Prior to becoming the CEO in August 2015, Scott served on Board of OHU for more than ten years, including two separate rotations as the Board Chair.

Scott became the CEO after retiring from a twenty-year career on Wall Street advising clients and their boards on mergers, acquisitions, financings and restructuring. Prior to his retirement, Scott was a Senior Advisor/Vice Chair for BMO Capital Markets (BMO), the US investment banking business of the Bank of Montreal, where he was responsible for corporate board relationship development and high-profile advisory assignments.

Scott has a Bachelor of Science in Finance and Economics from the University of Arizona. Scott is a Partner with Social Venture Partners Chicago, a partnership of philanthropically-minded individuals focused on building a scalable social enterprise community in Chicago.

Mary Reidy McMahon

Retired, Executive Pastry Chef, Trio Restaurant

Mary is an award winning pastry chef and former Culinary Director for Now We’re Cookin’, an Evanston-based community kitchen and food incubator. Over the course of her career, she served as Executive Pastry Chef for Trio Restaurant in Evanston and was an instructor at the Illinois Institute of Art. She brings a wealth of civic leadership, event planning and fundraising experience including serving as past president for Les Dames d’Escoffier.

Mary is a graduate from Washburne Culinary School and is a Certified Master Gardner. She and her husband live in Lake Forest.

Heather Sannes

Executive Director, The John & Kathleen Schreiber Foundation

Heather E. Sannes founded the Schreiber Foundation for John and Kathy Schreiber in 2005 and has been at the helm ever since. The Schreiber Foundation is primarily focused Lake and Cook Counties in Illinois, and centers its giving around ensuring access to resources for vulnerable populations, with a particular emphasis on education and all related wrap-around services needed to help families thrive.

Prior to building and leading the Schreiber Foundation, Heather was a litigation paralegal at a large Chicago-based law firm, and then in-house at Walgreens Co. She earned a B.A. degree in Communication from the University of St. Thomas in Minnesota.

Over the course of her career, Heather has served on various boards, most recently for Most Blessed Trinity Academy grade school in Waukegan. 

Heather grew up in Lake Forest, where she now resides with her husband and daughter.

John Sonnier

Partner & Managing Director, William Blair

John Sonnier is a Partner and Managing Director at William Blair where he provides capital markets and M&A advisory services to the firm’s biopharma clients. Mr. Sonnier possesses over 25 years of investment banking, equity research and other healthcare industry expertise. He joined William Blair in 2005 to build the firm’s biopharma equity research practice. Before coming to William Blair, Mr. Sonnier was a biotechnology equity research analyst for seven years with the Prudential Equity Group. Previously, he also spent eight years in various commercial and strategic roles at Johnson & Johnson and Baxter International.

Mr. Sonnier holds a Master of Public Health degree from Johns Hopkins University and a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Southern Mississippi.

NAI Hiffman

Stephen Sullivan is Vice President of the Industrial Services Group at NAI Hiffman, a commercial real estate firm. He has been actively engaged in community service for over a decade. Presently he is a governing board member of the Noble Network of Charter Schools and chairs its Summer of a Lifetime college-readiness program. In addition, he serves as Board Chair of Skin Of Steel, a Glenview-based nonprofit raising support to build a national melanoma tissue bank.

Previously, Steve served as a board member of PADS Lake County and the Winnetka Parks Foundation (2008-2014). He was the Founding Chair of the Parkways Young Professionals (2004-2010), an auxiliary board of the Parkways Foundation that raises philanthropic support for Chicago Park District facilities and programming. From 2009 to 2011, Steve served as Board Chair of the Old Willow Club where he remains an active member. He is a graduate of Indiana University and resides in Winnetka with his wife and three daughters.

Anthony Vega

Lake County Sheriff's Office

Anthony Vega is Chief of Staff to Lake County Sheriff John D. Idleburg and is the first Latino and openly gay member in a position of executive leadership within the Sheriff’s Office. His passion has been activating more people to participate in the political process and working within institutions of government to affect change for members of underrepresented communities.

Anthony holds a B.A. in Political Science from Bellarmine University in Louisville, Kentucky and a Masters in Public Policy from Loyola University Chicago. He has been previously involved in organizing, environmental advocacy and community outreach and engagement. Anthony resides in Grayslake with his husband, Jorge, and three dogs Vader, Skye, and Kylo.

Amber Webb

Social Impact Accelerator

Amber is a seasoned executive, a Northwestern Kellogg alum, with international experience in Fortune 100 healthcare companies: Abbott, Baxter, Merck, ITW. She accelerates the social impact of business. Her functional expertise is global and digital marketing, business development, and philanthropy.

Amber grows underrepresented brands and markets of the world and maximizes resources. She most recently was the Vice President of Development for a nonprofit organization, the Metropolitan Planning Council, that focuses on nonpartisan policy interventions that will result in a more diverse, equitable, and inclusive future for everyone in the Chicago Region.

Amber is an alumnus of both Northwestern University and Northwestern Kellogg.  She is a Nonprofit Management Executive Scholar and a Fellow of the Allstate Foundation Nonprofit Executive Leadership program. She was a recipient of the 2019 POWER 50 Award by the Illinois Diversity Council.  Amber is a native of the south side of Chicago.

Amber’s boardroom and advisory experience includes serving as the Membership Committee Chair for the Healthcare Businesswomen’s Association (HBA), an 11,000 member nonprofit. She served as the Market Research Committee Chair for Abbott Laboratories’ 35,000 member Women’s Business Resource Group.  Amber is an investor and an Advisor to a startup Private Equity Exchange, Next Gen Capital (NGC).
