In November 2011 the Foundation's board of directors adopted a more strategic, proactive and integrated approach to grant making that maximizes the value of each of the Foundation's roles--funder, civic leader and partner with grantees--around critical community issues. The Foundation realigned its approach to grant making while utilizing a review of its historical grant commitments, community interviews, research and mapping with the intention of investing in transformational grant making.
